CONCERT
Moondog - The Viking

August 30 at 9:00 PM — August 30, 2019 at 10:00 PM

Louis Hardin aka. Moondog (1916-1999) died 20 years ago, in the same year in which this Kunstverein was founded. He was a blind composer, poet, music theorist, important figure of counter culture and the inventor of minimal music. In New York, due to his extravagant clothing, he became known as the “Viking of 6th Avenue”, selling his work in the streets and presenting his writings in poetry readings with beat poets such as Allen Ginsberg. From the mid 1970ies, his nomadic life style led the American artist to live in Hamburg, Recklinghausen and eventually Oer-Erkenschwick, where he stayed until his death.

For this year's edition, Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival has created a series of concerts taking place in August 2019 to present Moondog's compositions at different locations throughout Hamburg .

Kunstverein Harburger Bahnhof will not only give further insight into Moondog's work by presenting poems, unpublished sound material and rare original documents by the famous blind composer and great nomad, in an exhibition taking place from 6 July to 1 September 2019.

On 30 August 2019 Swedish musician Stefan Lakatos (Trimba, drum Design by Moondog), ClariNoir (Clarinets), Omer Iran (Oboe) and Alexander Rauch (Bassoon) will perform works by Moondog at Kunstverein Harburger Bahnhof.
