Track_5
Decoded Situations - Media Conversions

September 16 at 6:00 PM — September 16, 2017 at 10:00 PM

"Track Academy" is a series of discursive programs combining scientific, artistic and educational formats. It creates communicative situations through the temporal and spatial condensation of the different activities, allowing for broader scopes of interaction and activation of specific knowledge. The themes "Track Academy" tackles derive from the exhibition program of the Kunstverein in 2017. They address contemporary challenges such as digitalization and networking, urbanity and urban development as well as migration and diversity.

Track_5 Decoded Situations - Media Conversions

Corporation of People's Situations has been working since 2015 in alternating interdisciplinary formations developing situations, performances and lectures on the thematic cluster of property, ownership, community and the scope for collective action. Between 17 June and 23 July, an exhibition layout in the Kunstverein Harburger Bahnhof became the starting point for several COPS-initiated talks, workshops, screenings and (physical) exercises by invited artists and guests to approach questions of communal engagement. Through and within the framework of Track_5 "Decoded Situations – Media Translations", matters arising from and documented in the overall process of these communicative situations, statements, creative solutions and emerging issues are connected through improvised action and examined in group accord.

Economy without money
Input from Stefan Heidenreich (author, arts and media theorist, Berlin)

and conversation with Jennifer Bennett (artist, Berlin)

Stefan Heidenreich's research interests and publications span a broad range of topics including media, networks, economics and art. Predicated upon the hypothesis that money is no longer the only medium facilitating the distribution of resources, (a range of) post-monetary practices can be developed using different, network-based distribution structures. How does this impact upon our understanding of value? What will the transformation of our current economic system look like? Stefan Heidenreich's books "Mehr Geld" and "Forderungen" address this topic (both co-written with Ralph Heidenreich and published by the Merve Verlag, Berlin). His latest book on post-monetary economy will be published by Merve this autumn.

Decoded Situations – Media Translations
by Corporation of people's situations

A script by the screenplay writer, Carl Gerber, who was present at the Corporation of People’s Situations at the Kunstverein Harburger Bahnhof, provides a framework for a revisitation, recapitulation and review of the material generated in these communicative situations. Areas such as "content, subject, format, aesthetic, message", "self-definition, external perspective", "anarchy" and "life or income plan" are negotiated and reflected in relation to COPS within a musical, visual improvisation (with interludes by the performer and choreographer, Jasna L. Vinovrski on the question of how the subject of justice can be negotiated within a live performance, as well as a legal perspective on the concept of the Corporation).
